The 400-volt electrical architecture means it charges much more slowly than Hyundai figures to go from 10 to 80% full in 40 minutes at a Tesla Supercharger station. It’s difficult to determine exactly how much Tesla costs, as often in the form of cuts, weekly, if not daily, price updates are considered the norm.

Also, Tesla has shut down its communications division, so there is no way to borrow press cars like we do with every other automaker. Like, we rented one, and it said the appraised value was $70,130 That said, a good part of that comes from Tesla’s optional and rightly disputed full self-driving capability, which costs $15,000 and can’t self-drive.

Furthermore, we couldn’t even turn it on, but our assumption is that whoever rented our car turned it off, so we subtracted its cost from our price. Tesla scores an easy win in space for stuffing. The Model Y has a large front that can swallow a large roller board, though we’re not sure why Hyundai opens its hood. You could probably stuff a soft backpack with a charging cable into its little nook, but that’s about it. The Ionic 5 weighs significantly more than the Model Y at 4337 versus 4674 pounds.

We’re unsure why, since the Hyundai’s exterior dimensions are smaller and the Tesla packs a larger battery. That said, Hyundai’s added beef doesn’t seem to have much of an impact on acceleration feel or performance. The two are dead even in the 0-60 mph sprint, each taking just 4.4 seconds. It’s the V8 power that’s probably replacing your Camry. Chances are you’ll love us.

The Tesla’s horsepower advantage shows up late in the quarter mile, where it bests the Hyundai by half a second. 12.7 seconds at 114.9 mph vs. 13.2 at 103.3. Just so we’re all on the same page here, the 2023 Honda Civic Type RA legit performance wise the machine hits 60 mph in 5.3 seconds and finishes the quarter at 104.2 mph in 13.9 seconds. Sure, there are fast EVs and SUVs, but at this price point, it’s pretty exciting overall.
